There are presently no open calls for submissions.
The English Department
invites you to participate in the annual Wooster Writing Prize Contest,
a writing competition open to all students.
We are accepting submissions in Fiction, Poetry, Critical Essays, Critical Essays on Poetry,
Creative Non-Fiction/Personal Essay, and Translation, with cash prizes in each genre.
Students may submit:
· one or more stories of up to 5,000 words
· up to four poems
· one critical essay of up to 5,000 words
· one critical essay on poetry of up to 5,000 words
· one or more personal essays (creative non-fiction) of up to 5,000 words
· for translation, the same maximum limits as to genre should be observed
Students may submit work in all genres.
To reduce paper waste, we're continuing to use the online submission portal, Submittable. We will not accept paper submissions.
To submit, you will need to create an account on Submittable. If you already have an account on Submittable you may use it, as you will be directed to include your Wooster email on the Submissions page. If submitting multiple works in a single category (where allowed) please combine into a single document with clear distinctions for separate pieces.
The competition is anonymous, so do not include your name or any other identifying information within the body of the text. Once you upload your submission you will not be able to re-submit any revisions of your writing! To submit your work and for more detailed instruction click this link: https://wooster.submittable.com/submit
The contest entry period is open from Friday, March 7th, at 12:00 pm noon, and closes Monday, April 7th, at 11:59 pm U.S. EST. Winners will be announced later in April.
**English majors** – you may also sign up to be considered for the English Department’s Darren Demaree Writing Residency (1 week in summer of 2025). When you submit, just check the box at the bottom of that form!
Please contact Professor Christopher Kang ( ckang@wooster.edu ) with any questions.
